Wanda Halina Lewandowska

May 23, 1948 — September 10, 2025

Wanda Halina Lewandowska, a cherished educator and beloved matriarch, passed away on September 10, 2025, at the age of 77, after bravely battling lung cancer. She took her final breath at 10:55 PM, leaving a legacy of love, kindness, and diligence that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Born on May 23, 1948, Wanda grew up in Ziebice, Poland, where she attended "Tabeusz Kosciuszki High School". Demonstrating a passion for learning, she excelled in areas such as Art, Math, and Writing, particularly focusing on poetry and the Polish language. Following her secondary education, she pursued further studies at "The Studium Nauczycielskie", a teacher training college in Wroclaw, Poland, where she honed her skills to become a dedicated teacher. Wanda's professional role as a math teacher for elementary students at "Szkola Podstawowa nr 4 im, Kombatantow Ziemi Ziebickiej" in Ziebice had a tremendous impact on countless young minds. Throughout her life, she was known as the kindest woman anyone could meet, selflessly helping others and enjoying the simple things in life. Her laughter was infectious, and her ability to create beauty in everything she touched inspired those around her.

In February 1979, she migrated to the United States with her husband, Waldemar, and their two children, receiving assistance from her mother-in-law who resided in Chicago. Committed to providing for her family, Wanda took the bus daily to Detroit, where she worked diligently to clean Kmart Headquarters. In her spare time, she studied Electrolysis, showing her relentless work ethic and determination to create a better life for her family. Not long after she was able to stay at home and dedicate her time to something she was passionate about, her garden. Later in her life Wanda not only received her driver's license but obtained her Citizenship here in the United States, officially making her an American Citizen.

Her children often recall the warmth of her laughter and how she approached every aspect of life with care and creativity. Whether it was through gardening, crafting exquisite wall decorations, or lovingly making doll and baby clothes, Wanda’s hands were always busy creating something beautiful. She also delighted in creating her own tea blends, reading, solving crossword puzzles, and watching Polish television love stories. She won Mother of the Year", "World's Most Valued Grandma" and "GEM" awards for going the extra mile in everything she did with her family. Wanda loved being a mother and grandmother and she took care of everyone she loved.
