Neil C. Kapera, an amazing man known for his unwavering spirit and tremendous love for his family, passed away on July 11, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on February 19, 1960, Neil was the epitome of strength, intelligence, love, and spirituality.
Neil was known by those who loved him as one of the smartest people you’d ever meet—he regularly answered more Jeopardy! questions correctly than the contestants themselves. A true lover of learning and culture, he enjoyed reading, writing, photography, and watching movies, and he was especially proud of his collection of vinyl records. Neil was also a diehard Detroit Tigers fan and an athlete throughout his life, having grown up playing hockey and later enjoying volleyball, softball, and golf. He had a deep appreciation for travel, particularly road trips across his beloved home state of Michigan, and he took great pride in keeping a well-manicured lawn. Neil’s laughter was unforgettable and his sharp wit, curious spirit, and warmth will be missed by all who knew him.
After graduating from Oak Park High School in 1978, Neil worked a variety of jobs throughout his life, including selling flowers, working in car sales, and later serving in property management at Lawrence Technological University. Neil was proud of being the best salesman as well as a remarkable leader.
Residing in Michigan, Neil had a profound fondness for the beauty of his surroundings—his love for nature, beaches, and sunsets was mirrored in the life he created with his beloved wife, Jackie Kapera. Together, they celebrated the simple joys of life, as reminisced in the cherished memories of those who knew them. Jackie recalls the early days of their relationship, navigating the scenic routes of Northern Michigan, armed only with maps and an adventurous spirit, long before the era of cell phones overshadowed that delightful exploration.
Neil’s heart swelled with pride for his two sons, Kyle and David. He always said his two boys were his proudest achievement, illuminating his essence as a devoted father. David remembers fondly the years his dad spent coaching his soccer team—Neil was always proud to watch his son play, and those seasons became a cherished time they shared together. Kyle loved learning from his dad about anything and everything—including history, sports, movies, and music—and will forever be grateful for the connection they built through those moments.
Neil was one of seven siblings. He is survived by Brian (Sarah), Marlene (Michael Hamme), Keith (Katherine), Kevin (Angela), and his sister-in-law Kathleen, the wife of his late brother Gary. He was also preceded in death by his sister Janet, and his two parents Leonard and Grace.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his remarkable journey during Visitation on July 21, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 5:00 PM at Wysocki & Wilk Funeral Home located at 29440 Ryan Rd, Warren, MI.
As we bid farewell to Neil C. Kapera, we honor not just the man he was but the legacy he leaves—a legacy rich with love, laughter, and the indomitable spirit of a man who truly lived all his days. The world has dimmed a little in his absence, yet his light will forever guide us.
