Mary Jane Munger passed away peacefully at home on September 7, 2025, with two of her daughters by her side. She was 78 years old.
Born on October 17, 1946, Mary lived a life filled with love, strength, and selfless devotion to others. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend—known for her gentle spirit, her unwavering support, and her incredible cooking. Nothing made her happier than feeding the people she loved, and her home was always a place of warmth, comfort, and full plates.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Danielle Greene, whose memory she carried close to her heart. She is survived by her children: Cathy (Dan) Backos, Kim (Dan) Hart, Michelle (Dave) Garbe, and Joe Greene.
She was a proud and loving grandmom to Jennifer (Eric) Blasky, Christina (Bob) Backos, DJ (Fatima) Backos, Lauren (Derrick) Clark, Marissa (Brian) Majewski, Nicholas Garbe, Delaney Hart, Kailey McLeod, Melia Greene, and Maddy Greene, and a joyful great-grandmother to eleven: Lucas, Leo, Lillianna, Nathan, Wayne, Seph, Damian, Oliver, Brayden, Roman, and Bryson.
Mary shared a lifelong, treasured bond with her siblings: Nancy (Dan) Ernst, Terry (Jack) Lay, Peggy (John) Boos, and Robbie (Danielle) Roberts. One of her favorite memories was a peaceful evening spent with her sisters, sharing dinner on the beach in St. Augustine as the moon rose over the ocean—an experience she held dear for the rest of her life.
She will be remembered for her warm heart, her strong faith, her delicious meals, and the way she made every person feel special, welcome, and loved. Her legacy lives on in every recipe passed down, every family gathering, and every memory shared around the table.
A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Saturday September 13, 2025, at St. Mary Queen of all Creation Church (50931 Maria St., New Baltimore) at 10 a.m.
A memorial lunch will take place after the service at Louis’ Chop House – Riviera Lounge, 50355 Gratiot Avenue, Chesterfield, MI 48051
Mary will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
